Per fare questo abbiamo accolto contributi eterogenei, sia per ambito, umanistico e scientifico, sia per competenza di scrittura, da progettisti grafici, scienziati, matematici e ricercatori.--Text and Image in the Scientific Realmcurated by Riccardo Falcinelli, Arnaldo Filippini, Giuseppe Liberti, Luciano Perondi, Leonardo Romei In the scientific realm, the production of texts often draws heavily upon images, be they schematics or photographs, diagrams or figures. They are an integral part of the discourse, can be considered innate aspects of all written text, and can also be a powerful part of the research process: graphics and schematics, for example, are often employed during the investigation and verification of scientific research. But graphic design isn’t necessarily practiced and produced by people who have actually studied it. The cases explored in this issue of Progetto grafico highlight this particular aspect: clearly expressing knowledge and information is a widespread need, and graphic design has proved capable of dealing with elements that appear to be unrelated, yet as a group allow for a greater, more complete comprehension of one’s practice. This issue aims to provide a broad perspective on the uses of graphic design in the realms of science and mathematics. To that end, we have gathered a wide range of contributions—from both the sciences as well as the humanities, and reflecting different types of writing—provided by graphic designers, scientists, mathematicians, and researchers.
